Peak XV takes startups on a journey to Silicon Valley using AI

Peak XV, the venture capital firm that separated from Sequoia Capital last yearis taking its portfolio companies from India, Southeast Asia and Australia on an “immersion” trip to Silicon Valley this week to meet several industry titans, the latest of which expanding the venture capital firm’s networking offerings and flexibility.

Around 60 founders, many supported by Peak XV powerfully influential Surge programwill join the company’s partners on the trip to meet with industry leaders and visit AI research centers, according to an attendee briefed on the matter.

The week includes strategy sessions with executives from OpenAI and Nvidia as well as Sequoia partner Doug Leone, and discussions with seasoned operators like Uniphore chief Umesh Sachdev and DoorDash advisor Gokul Rajaram, according to an email sent by the company to portfolio startups seen by TechCrunch.

The program, internally dubbed “Immersion Week,” is the latest glimpse into Peak XV’s expanded roster beyond check writing, as competition heats up among venture capitalists seeking access to startups most promising AI technologies in the world.

India, one of the largest startup ecosystems, currently lacks depth when it comes to deep tech and AI startups. Very few players in India attempt to create large, foundational language models. Sarvam AI, one of these startups, announced $41 million in funding late last year led by Peak XV and Lightspeed India and entered into a partnership with Microsoft last week.

Investors say many existing startups in India are strategizing on what new capabilities to develop and finding customers abroad – and that’s where a trip like ‘Immersion’ can prove beneficial.
