Skiff was launched in 2020 by Andrew Milich and Jason Ginsberg. In a conversation with the co-founders published on the Notion blog, the company’s COO Akshay Kothari said Notion took note of Skiff’s work from the beginning.

“Skiff started showing up on our radar at Notion early on. I actually tried to contact you in 2020 when you were developing your Docs product. We never connected back then, but I kept an eye on your progress. Then a few months ago, Ivan [Notion co-foudner] and I was talking, and Skiff came back. I downloaded all the products you had built and was really impressed with the attention to detail,” said Kothari.

While the company started as a secure alternative to Google Docs, it has also developed other productivity solutions such as calendaring and email.

Skiff mentioned on its website that the company was joining Notion. On a support page, Skiff said the product would stop after six months. He mentioned that Skiff user account will not be converted to Notion account. Additionally, users can easily export or migrate their data to other services.

Notion’s latest acquisition was the workflow management tool Data flow in 2022. Before that, it acquired Cron and Automate.io, based in Indiawhich had a suite of integrations with 200 services.
