“I want to address recent issues with problematic text and image responses in the Gemini (formerly Bard) app. I know some of its responses have offended our users and demonstrated bias – to be Clearly, this is completely unacceptable and we were wrong.

Our teams have been working around the clock to resolve these issues. We’re already seeing substantial improvement across a wide range of prompts. No AI is perfect, especially at this emerging stage of the industry’s development, but we know the bar is high for us and we will maintain it for as long as it takes. And we will look at what happened and make sure we correct it on a large scale.

Our mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful is sacrosanct. We have always sought to provide users with useful, accurate and unbiased information about our products. That’s why people trust them. This must be our approach for all of our products, including our emerging AI products.

We will pursue a clear set of actions, including structural changes, updated product guidelines, improved release processes, robust assessments and red teaming, and technical recommendations. We are reviewing all of this and will make any necessary changes.
